The Spark of Inspiration

Inspiration is one of my favorite topics to explore. The word itself comes from Latin, inspiratus, literally meaning to breathe into. It is the breath of a new idea, seemingly breathed into your mind.

It is the stroke of genius, the "Eureka!" moment from the gods.

To me, it is pretty incredible! A thought prompts you into action, with joy and hope in your heart, optimistic that it will turn out fantastic.

The difficulty with inspiration that I've encountered is that it never shows up according to plan. Either it's nowhere in sight, or I'm inspired to jump to a new project, halfway through my existing project that has lost its enticing sheen.

Anything can be a source of inspiration, but ironically, ideas tend to show up when you're not actively looking for them. They take some time to appear, after percolating in your subconscious for a while. Still, a part of the fun is in the pursuit of inspiration, as you can spend time doing activities you love.

For me, the goal is to regularly access inspiration, and to funnel those ideas into manageable plans. Planning may not seem creative, but it lets your subconscious know that if it brings ideas to you, you'll be able to make the most of them.

What issues do you have with inspiration? Do you find yourself over-inspired or under-inspired? Let me know!
